Serious Eats: Talk
I'm a vegetarian and my boyfriend will not eat vegetables :(
Please give me some suggestions. My boyfriend of 1.5 years and I have recently moved in together. I am a vegetarian of 20 years. I eat dairy, eggs, honey etc...but no meat, fish, poultry, gelatin etc. I usually eat, plenty of veggies, beans, fruit, whole grains, etc. He only will eat meat, potatoes, bread, cheese and corn. Since I consider corn and potatoes starches rather than veggies...in my book he will eat no veggies!! (The only two fruits he will eat are bananas and oranges in the morning) When we get take out he'll check every meal before we leave the shop to make sure that they held the tomato and lettuce per his request!! If they didn't he'll return it and demand another.
To be honest I am completely grossed out by even seeing meat....but I've been trying to accommodate him by reheating precooked chicken and such and adding it to the potatoes and veggies that I'd normally cook. I can't even make pasta that often because he doesn't like tomato sauce--only Alfredo sauce. He only complains a few times a week...and he also wants to eat out a few times a week...no surprise there...before we lived together he ate out every meal...but he has told me point blank that he'll only enjoy eating my food if I cook more meat and that he hates all veggies. (He will eat green beans if they are fried with bacon)
I need suggestions...please!
